At Spotlight Printing, we use the very best method for headshot reproductions, comp card and Zed card printing. Although we are located in Orange county, we serve all 50 States and around the world.
A specialist evaluates each photo or digital file you send us and each image is electronically analyzed for color, hue, brightness and contrast and corrected as required, ensuring perfect color balance and saturation. Once the skin tone is balanced and imperfections corrected, your photo is carefully placed onto a professionally designed layout and digitally sent to our press. This obsession to detail and perfection, produces the sharpest headshot, comp cards and zed cards in the industry.
Our headshot reproductions are 8"x10" and printed on 14pt coated sturdy paper stock. Since casting directors receive hundreds or even thousands of headshots in a day, it is important that your headshot stands out. Our experienced staff can help you choose a marketable headshot and using our state of the art technology, produce some of the best headshots the industry uses. Recent trends have been towards double sided headshots. Many companies are unable to print double sided headshots- but WE CAN!
We can also print resumes on the back of your headshot prints for a small extra fee.
The most popular headshot layout is HS1 (all borders) this ensures that your picture will not be cropped and allows space for casting directors and agents to make notes on the headshots.

Comp Cards and Zed cards are a models’ calling card in the industry. Your agent will send out your cards to casting directors, who use them to decide on who gets a callback or a job.
If you do not have an agent yet, your Comp Cards and Zed Cards can help you get an agent and if you already have one, the jobs you book as a result of them can help you keep your agent. Your Comp Cards and Zed Cards represent you and must be of the best quality in this very competitive business. Zedcards are 5.5 x 8.5 (standard size for the industry. Do not settle from smaller than this size no matter with other companies say!) and double sided.

About The Business Cards... There is a growing tendency for actors and models to use business cards as a way to market themselves in this very competitive industry. Our one-sided actor/model cards are a perfect way to get an edge above the others trying to break in the industry. Our cards are printed on 14pt coated stock and measure 3.5 x 2.
Imagine going to a party and meeting a movie or television executive- is it possible to bring bulky 8 x 10's to a party in your coat pocket? No, but it is possible to pop a few business cards in your purse or wallet and be prepared in case you do meet that one that will take you to the top. So try the business cards- it's only $25 for 500 cards! A small investment for your career.
1. What's the difference between a headshot and a zed or composite?
A headshot is an 8x10 photo, usually in color (but some actors still use black and white headshots), with the actors' name printed on the bottom and, if represented, the agency logo and information. A current resume of the actor's education and experience is attached to the back.
A composite or a zed card is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 and used as a model's business card. It is in color and highlights the different "looks" the model has.
The most popular layout is a headshot on the front with the models' name on the bottom and a collection of 2-4 images on the back along with the stats.
2. I don't have my negatives - can I just send photos to make my zed cards or headshots?
Yes! However, the turnaround time for receiving a proof will be longer. It is recommended to take your negatives to a local lab and have the place them on a CD and then submit your order to us.
3. How big do my images have to be?
For 8x10 headshots, we recommend a file that is 300 dpi, if the dpi is lower then an image size that is larger than a 8 x 10. Remember, your headshots will only be as good as the files you send us.
4. Can I scan my photos and email them in?
Yes, but we ask that you call us first before scanning your own images so we can ensure that the quality will be good. Also feel free to send in your photos so that we can scan them for you, of course that's free!
5. Can I send my pictures on a CD?
Absolutely, but an even faster way is to upload or email the pictures. This way, we won't have to wait for the mail (and risk the postal service losing your CD) and won't have to spend time sorting through your entire CD of images. Please only send pictures on CDs that have been taken by a professional photographer who understands what resolution the photo needs to be taken at.
6. Can I just bring my order in?

7. How long will it take to get my cards back?
Most orders ship 24 hours after proof approval and payment has been made, but we ask you to allow at least 72 hours before an order can be shipped. If you need your order at a specific date, please specify on the order form and let us know when we call to confirm and collect payment.
We can accommodate same day shipping of your order at no extra charge, but you must call or e-mail for availability of such service.
Please note with ground shipping Fedex estimates 3-5 working days for orders to arrive outside of California (Excluding weekends).

If you need your order by a specific date- we highly encourage upgrading to FEDEX 2 day shipping or overnight shipping. This will ensure that you will receive your order on time. Please consult the order form for additional costs for Express shipping.
8. Can I get my order done in a rush? I need them tomorrow!
Yes! Rush delivery is available. Rush delivery is not always available- please contact for availability.
9. Can I just pay for the cards when I get them?
Unfortunately, we do not ship COD We strive to keep costs down by buying our supplies in bulk and pass down that savings to our customers, in order to continue doing so, we must collect payment for your order before it ships.
10. Can I just send in a check with my order?
Yes, you can submit a Check with your order however this may slow down the processing of your order since we must wait up to 10 business days for the check to clear our bank. Please consider sending a money order or cashiers check, so that we may begin working on your order as soon as it is received. Credit card payments via phone is the best option to ensure speedy processing and delivery of your order.
11. Do you accept credit cards?
We accept all major credit cards and Paypal. We will contact you after you have approved your proof.
We also accept paypal payments. You may click "make payment" on the homepage to make payment online.
12. Can I get a proof to approve?
Proofs are available via e-mail. When viewing proofs pay particular attention to the spelling and layout details. There can be color variations between what we see on our monitors and what you see when you view your proofs online. Since everyone sets there setting on there monitors differently- such as the brightness, hue etc. what you see on your monitor in regards to color might not be too accurate. Proofs are typically used to catch spelling and layout errors. However, we do everything possible to control such variables.
13. Can I print a resume on the back?
Yes, we can print resumes on the back. However, we would need the resume in PDF format. If using Word, there is an option to convert to PDF .If you choose to print resumes on your home printer- you may want to check with us before ordering as some home printers work and some do not.
14. I am having trouble uploading my files. I keep getting an error message, what should I do?
Since we get so many orders a day- sometimes our upload server gets overloaded and files are unable to upload properly. If this occurs- you may e-mail the images to us at email@example.com
We will e-mail a confirmation that your files were received no later than 24 hours after you submit the order.
15. I got my headshots/Comp cards and a few prints are damaged, what should I do?
This sometimes occurs during the shipping process. We typically over print the orders so you get extra 10 prints or so with your order to compensate for any prints that have been damaged, feel free to call us at 888.954.8467 to discuss the matter once you receive your order.
16. If I approve the proof and receive my order and there is a stat or misspelling that I missed on the proof- can I still get a reprint?
Sorry, but no. Once the proof has been approved any spelling errors or layout problems is the responsibility of the client. So please take special care when viewing your proof. If you are unable to view some of the stats because they show up too small on the proof- please notify us and we will e-mail another proof. Please remember- once a proof has been approved no free reprints can be made in regards to spelling or layout errors.
17. What paper stock do you use?
We use 14pt sturdy coated paper stock.
18. Can we make our prints glossier?
You may ask to add UV high gloss to your order. UV coating gives your prints an extra shine and helps protect against fading and dullness.
